Partner Requirements

ArtCorps is a fresh approach to old problems and has wide applicability and lasting impact. We are therefore able to partner with diverse organizations. Our partners include multinational organizations and small grassroots organizations who focus on a range of development issues, primarily related to the environment, public health and human rights.

When seeking partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs), we look for:

  • Commitment to participatory development--working in collaboration with communities towards locally sustainable solutions
  • Reputation for offering appropriate and effective solutions to local development problems
  • Openness to improving their outreach and education through art
  • Financial and institutional capacity to support an artist during his or her residency (including room and board, management, local transportation, providing help to artist in emergencies, etc.)
  • Willingness to pursue joint funding opportunities
  • Capacity to expand the number of artists in the future as appropriate
  • Commitment to planning and evaluation
  • Interest in working together for the long term (minimum three to five years)

Working together for the long term not only allows local artists and NGO employees to be properly trained to collaborate without further ArtCorps assistance but also helps the NGO develop the ability to employ a local professional artist to continue the work.

How does ArtCorps work to match the right artist with a host organization?

ArtCorps first collects information from the NGO about its objectives, the area's local or indigenous culture and customs, availability of materials, key persons, etc. These details allow us to select an appropriate artist. The host organization may suggest a specific art form they know would be effective for their community or project.

We then compare each organization's needs with our pool of applicants.

Finally, we train the selected artist about the country, culture and the field of interest of the host organization and put him or her in communication with an NGO representative before the start of the program.

How does my organization apply to receive an artist?
