ART FOR SOCIAL ACTION
This Spring Help ArtCorps Plant Seeds of Change
May 4, 2011

Thanks to your support, ArtCorps is emerging from the financial crisis stronger than ever before–we have identified new strategies and adopted creative, collaborative solutions that allow us to continue cultivating innovative leaders. Today we launch our Spring Fund Drive with the goal of raising $10,000. Over the next four weeks, we will bring you on a journey to the Western Highlands of Guatemala where you will hear about our Youth Leaders in Conservation project.

Your spring donation will help us reach our $10,000 goal and plant the seeds of social change.

In a nursery in Totonicapan, Guatemala, Don Agustin carefully tends inch-tall seedlings that one day will be among the towering fir trees that cover the San Miguel Forest. These young trees may not look like much right now, but they are full of potential for the surrounding communities that rely on the forest for building and fueling their homes.

Your support of ArtCorps this spring ensures that Don Agustin is not the only one planting seeds. Don Agustin and other aging Mayan elders know they must find a way to engage the youth and pass on centuries-old conservation practices at risk of being lost forever. With your support, ArtCorps Artist Andrea Shigeko Landin will continue to creatively bridge this generational and knowledge gap, using arts-based techniques that inspire youth to be leaders in conservation and document indigenous knowledge and stories.

Your donation will ensure that the strong roots of the sacred San Miguel Forest continue to deepen and grow.

Happy Spring!
