In this second stage of my life in Guatemala I find great challenges and expectations for both my personal and professional experiences.
Coming back here again has meant emotional highs and lows for me, my time back in my country moved me more than I had expected, and it has just been hard to adapt coming back. No… well, it’s not adapting, rather it’s trying to make this not just a continuation of the previous year, it’s trying to turn the page and make this an evolution. It’s trying to avoid the same mistakes, and even the same achievements, trying to evolve to something beyond, to start from zero with a new blank page before my eyes for this new cycle.
As far as my work goes, I have learned that the most important thing is to get organized before acting; to think, then to act. I am spending this first part of this month thinking about what I want to achieve and how I am going to achieve it, and I am wrapped up in planning my monthly team workshops to facilitate the use of artistic techniques in the trainings that are given in the field.
We have drafted out what we hope to do each month, with the different activities and time frames listed as a guide that we will follow together. Things may change along the way, but it’s important to have this guide as a safety net to hold on to, so as not drown as we have at times before.
My time in Antigua went very well. It was the first time I participated in the training and had those new experiences, despite it being my second cycle with ArtCorps, and I really loved it, perhaps because of the brotherhood and sisterhood I found there with the other artists. It was hard for me to return to these deep Mayan lands where it is simply a different reality from being with the rest of the ArtCorps community.
At every moment I remember the words of Mahatma Gandhi:
Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior.
Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits.
Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.
